TRANSPORT PACKAGING OF SHIPMENTS FOR TRANSPORTATION CARRIED OUT BY DSV ROAD A.S. 1. The transport packaging of a shipment should comply with the selected method of transport. The sender of a shipment is obligated to ensure the proper packaging and protection of the shipment in transport packaging (hereinafter referred to as the “TP”) so that it does not become damaged during transport and other handling. The TP should comply with the weight of the shipment by its design so that the contents are protected during transport. 2. A shipment for the DSV collection system should be packaged for transport so as to allow handling by 1 person. The transport packaging should allow the shipment to be held safely, e.g. using hitches for cardboard boxes, holders, bucket handles, etc., for manual handling up to a weight of 30 kg. In the case of shipments with a weight exceeding 30 kg, it must be possible for 1 person to handle using standard handling equipment (hand pallet truck, low or high forklift truck, hand truck). 3. The TP for shipments which are similar in character to parcels should be suitable for shipment processing by means of an automatic sorting system and for transport on a roller track (parcels). The TP should be made of material that can withstand a fall from a height of 80 cm in the case of a package collision, regardless of whether the package is subjected to impact on the side, edge or corner. 4. Free space between the contents and packaging material should be filled with a suitable material for the protection of the internal contents of the shipment; it acts as a deformation zone, which also prevents the internal contents from shifting or tipping. Foam pieces, moulded polystyrene, air cushions, bubble wrap, PP pulp or wooden wool are particularly suitable. 5. The TP of a shipment should be prepared and filled inside so as to be able to withstand a minimum static load of five times its own weight (it can be tested in a simple way by the sender). 6. Lids and openings in the TP should be covered securely and visibly so as to avoid spontaneous opening. It should be possible to open the shipment without visible damage to the external packaging. The packaging of a shipment should make access to the internal contents impossible. The intactness of the package can be ensured using sender’s tapes with printed company identification. 7. If reusing packaging (sacks, bags, cardboard boxes), remove all previous transport labels to avoid an erroneous shipment direction. 8. When packaging a shipment, take into consideration the fact that your shipment will be transported in the most stable position in order to avoid falling. 2
